Message #lands-referrals

chat and rooms

Conversation as part of the record, not beside it.

Messaging carries the day-to-day back-and-forth of administration — the quick question between departments, the coordination on a referral deadline, the committee call — with the file, the decision and the discussion kept together.

01

Rooms shaped like the Nation

Direct messages, standing department channels, committee rooms and short-lived rooms for one file, created from presets with the right membership already applied.

02

Membership from the directory

Rooms are populated by person, group or Team, so the Lands channel stays accurate as staffing changes. Guests join one conversation by link and nothing else.

03

Threads, pins and mentions

Side discussions split into threads, deadlines pin to the top, mentions can be restricted, and edits are recorded rather than hidden.

04

Built for field conditions

Voice messages, scheduled sends, reminders, polls and location sharing for staff working from a truck on a forestry road.

calls and meetings

Meetings where the work already lives.

Audio, video and screen sharing run from inside the conversation, so the room already holds the right people and the history of what they were discussing — without a third-party conferencing licence.

01

Calls that start inside the room

Audio, video and screen sharing start in the conversation itself. Participants raise hands, react, blur or replace their background, and join by browser, desktop or phone — or open a room silently rather than ring every device.

02

Lobby, breakouts and moderation

Larger sessions hold people in a lobby until a moderator admits them, and a workshop can split into breakout rooms and come back together. Moderators mute, control who may publish, and remove a participant.

03

Scheduled in Calendar, kept with the record

A call is booked as a calendar event, so the meeting, its room, its attachments and the notes that follow sit together. The dashboard surfaces the rooms attached to today's events.

04

Recording and phone lines on the Nation's own hardware

Multi-party calling, consent-prompted recording, and dial-in and dial-out to landlines all run on a media backend on the Nation's own hardware, sized to each deployment.

ownership

Conversations that belong to the Nation.

A great deal of real decision-making happens in conversation — approvals given in a message, direction set in a thread, a funding figure confirmed at 4:50 on a Friday.

Decisions live in messages

On a consumer chat app that material sits on infrastructure the Nation does not own, under terms it did not write.

Accounts leave with people

A staff member’s personal messaging account walks out the door with them. A room on the appliance stays when they move on.

Four systems, none searchable

Personal texts, a consumer group chat, a conferencing subscription and email used as chat cannot answer “what was decided, and by whom”.

how it works

Inside Tsen’awt.

A file shared in a conversation is not a copy in a chat silo — it lands in the Nation’s file store, in a per-conversation folder, under the same permissions, versioning and retention as any other document.

Attachments land in Files

Shared material is filed to a per-conversation folder and co-edited in Office in place, so the authoritative copy never moves.

Conversations attach to records

A discussion can be attached to a specific document — or to an external share — so the reasoning sits against the referral response, not in an unrelated channel.

Search spans the environment

One query returns the document, the form and the conversation about them, filtered by what the person searching is permitted to see.

Everything material is logged

Room creation, membership changes, permission grants, moderation actions and file shares all appear in the platform activity trail.

built in

Every conversation, on the record and on your network.

Internal communication comes back inside the Nation’s own records and access policy.

One answerable history

When a funder, an auditor, a court or a member asks what was decided, the answer comes from the record rather than a staff member’s phone.

Answerable

Works when the link doesn’t

Staff on the Nation’s own network keep messaging and calling each other through an outage — which is exactly when emergency coordination is needed.

Runs offline

No per-seat conferencing bill

Chat and meetings are functions of hardware the Nation already bought, not a subscription reconsidered every time a seasonal crew member needs an account.

Bring this into your Nation.

We start with an assessment of how your departments already communicate, then bring that work into the environment one room at a time.
